Beijing beyond the Forbidden City

There are a number of additional attractions in Beijing well worth a visit.
Extending from The Forbidden City is the Summer Palace and Beihai Park. This is a wonderful collection of gardens and a large lake which is now a very popular playground for the locals and a place to reflect and relax in the tranquil gardens or taking a boat cruise on the lake.

This covered walkway alongside the lake shore is intricately decorated and was constructed for the royal women of the court so that they could enjoy shade and shelter during their daily walks.
