Long necked people
The Karen people live on the border of Thailand and Myanamar. The Pai Long people belong to this group and we found several of them living at Inle Lake in a craft shop we visited. These long necked people apparantely stretch their necks from a young age with one ring at a time. The rings are never removed.
Inle Lake
Thw Shwe Yaunghwe Kyaung monastery near the village of Nyaungshwe in the Lake Inle area is an interesting place to visit. The monastery complex is fairly modest in size and the main feature is the large oval wooden windows which have special spritual significance. It is a tranquil place with a small population of novice monks in residence.
