Amongst my favourite art galleries I now include the Milwaukee Museum of Art.
I discovered this gem on a recent visit to the city whilst my wife Rosemary attended the annual Bead Show held at the impressive Milwaukee convention centre.
The remarkable aspect of the museum is the focal point of the Quadracci Pavilion designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.
Approaching the museum from the city the impressive brilliant white structure is clearly visible and as you get closer it seems to hover over the shores of Lake Michigan.
The museum is fronted by the Cudahy Gardens, an impressive geometric design of lawns, hedgerows and fountains which you cross over on the suspended pedestrian bridge to the upper entrance of the museum.
The vaulted 90 foot high glass ceiling known as the Burke Brise Soleil is a movable sunscreen with a 217 foot wingspan that unfolds twice daily like a giant bird opening its wings to the sun.
The interior has ultra modern lines and is bright and uncluttered. The numerous galleries display an impressive range of art from the old Masters to contemporary American art and exhibitions.
I spent three hours in the galleries and didn't feel that I did it justice.
The museum is an active and living centre for the arts and judging by the impressive calendar of up coming events is a wonderful cultural meeting point for the people of Milwaukee and surrounding area.
